Sons of Huns Afternoon Rock

Nikki and I stood in a cold line of people outside the Doug Fir recently. The wait was for a Red Bull hosted show where the ticket price was $3 with a pre event RSVP. The show line up of Portugal the Man and Sons of Huns is what created an hour plus wait to enter.

The entry fee was spot on but the show behind it did not deliver. ¬†Once the show kicked off, you could tell something was wrong with the sound. For the first time, I witnessed the Doug Fir failing in the sound department. The vocals were very blown out, which for Portugal the Man who’s sound relies on a signature voice, that meant true failure. We left after song four, unable to bear the feedback reverb and flat sound.

My takeaway from the show was seeing Sons of Huns for the first time. Their heavy rock and roll sound relies less on vocals, allowing them to play through the set with fewer distractions.
